Role Overview
The GIS Editor is responsible for maintaining, updating, and validating geospatial data related to the City Gas Distribution network. The role ensures accurate mapping of pipelines, assets, and customer connections to support planning, operations, safety, and regulatory compliance.
A. GIS Data Management
· Create, edit, and maintain GIS layers for:
o Steel & MDPE pipelines
o PNG (Domestic/Commercial/Industrial) connections
o CNG stations
o Valves, regulators, and other network assets
· Ensure accurate geo-referencing of network layouts and infrastructure.
· Update GIS database with as-built drawings and field survey data.
B. Data Validation & Quality Control
· Perform quality checks on spatial and attribute data.
· Identify and correct errors, inconsistencies, and duplications.
· Ensure adherence to company GIS standards and data models.
C. Integration with Field Operations
· Coordinate with project, O&M, and survey teams for data collection.
· Incorporate GPS survey data, pipeline route surveys, and redline markups.
· Support emergency response teams with updated maps and network layouts.
D. Mapping & Visualization
· Generate thematic maps and layouts for:
o Network expansion planning
o Leak-prone areas
o Asset management and monitoring
· Prepare reports and visual dashboards for management.
E. Software & Database Handling
· Work on GIS platforms such as:
o ArcGIS
o QGIS
· Manage spatial databases (e.g., PostgreSQL/PostGIS, SQL Server).
· Ensure regular backup and version control of GIS data.
F. Compliance & Documentation
· Maintain records as per PNGRB guidelines (for CGD entities).
· Support audits by providing GIS data and reports.
· Document GIS processes, workflows, and updates.

4. Required Qualifications
Educational Qualification
· Bachelor’s degree in:
o GIS / Geoinformatics
o Civil Engineering / Mechanical Engineering / IT
· Certification in GIS tools (preferred)
Experience
· 2–6 years of experience in GIS editing/mapping
· Experience in utilities sector (Gas, Water, Power) preferred
· Experience in CGD companies is an added advantage
