Job Description: Steward and Food Packer
Role Overview
This is a hands-on, often entry-level, position in the food manufacturing, warehousing, or catering industry. It requires maintaining a hygienic, organized, and safe environment while preparing food products for distribution.
Key Responsibilities
- Packaging & Assembly: Sorting, portioning, and placing food items (such as meals, snacks, or produce) into containers, bags, or trays.
- Sealing & Labeling: Using machinery or manual methods to seal packages, add labels with product information (weight, expiration date, ingredients), and apply barcodes.
- Quality Control: Inspecting food items for defects, damage, or expiration, and removing faulty products from the line.
- Cleaning & Sanitation: Sanitizing work areas, machinery (e.g., fillers, sealers), utensils, and pots and pans in compliance with health regulations.
- Documentation & Logistics: Recording inventory data, managing stock, and loading packed items onto pallets or vehicles.
- Safety Compliance: Following Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and, in some cases, handling chemicals for cleaning.
Key Requirements & Skills
- Attention to Detail: Ensuring accuracy in packaging, labeling, and quality inspections.
- Technical Skills: Familiarity with or ability to learn packaging machinery
- Food Safety Knowledge: Understanding of sanitation practices and food handling protocols.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work in cold storage environments (30-40 degrees) and perform, shifts, including weekends.
- Communication: Ability to work well in a team setting.
