Key Responsibilities of an Emergency Care Assistant:

• Responding to Emergency Calls:

  ECAs respond to emergency calls, assess the scene, and provide immediate support. 

• Providing Basic Life Support:

  They assist with tasks like controlling bleeding, treating wounds, and managing spinal injuries, under the supervision of a clinician. 

• Patient Transport:

  ECAs transport patients to healthcare facilities, ensuring their safety and well-being during transit. 

• Using Medical Equipment:

  They operate and maintain basic medical equipment used in emergency situations. 

• Communication and Documentation:

  ECAs communicate effectively with patients, medical teams, and relatives, and handle necessary documentation and reports. 

• Following Safety Protocols:

  They adhere to infection control and biomedical waste disposal policies, according to the HSSC. 

• Vehicle Operation:

  ECAs may be responsible for driving ambulance service vehicles and ensuring they are well-maintained, according to SWASFT.
